Story

March is National Kidney Disease Awareness month, a time when people raise awareness of the disease.
This is a topic really close to my heart as my 5 year old son suffers from Chronic Kidney Disease.
At only 3 years old, my little boy was diagnosed after nearly a year and a half of recurrent urine infections.
The uncertainty that comes with this disease is tiring and hard. The first few years of his life have been full of endless tests, kidney scans and numerous hospital appointments.
To have to sit as a parent and watch your child be poked and prodded by medical professionals is one of the most uncomfortable things I have ever had to do, but it is what’s best for him and the doctors know best. Alder Hey Children’s hospital have been fantastic, and without them we would more than likely still be searching for a diagnosis.
Everyday when he smiles at me, I sometimes forget that he is suffering from this disease. It just shows me he will not let anything get in his way of doing what he wants to do!
My son has been diagnosed with stage 4 CKD meaning only one of his kidneys are working to support his body, which will eventually lead to him needing a kidney transplant in the future. I can’t express how proud I am of him! He is strong, brave and he will continue to fight this disease with the love and support from his family and friends. Here’s to hoping that more awareness can be raised for this horrid disease in young children and interventions can be put in place as early as possible.

As a company I’m hoping we can raise as much as possible for this fantastic children’s hospital that has helped many children globally.

Thank you all for your time in reading this.
