Funding Research, Finding Hope
I am undertaking this cycling challenge for a friend's 7 year old daughter Evie who has the incurable degenerative brain condition A-T. The condition is slowly robbing her of all her physical abilities, including the ability to walk, talk and eventually to feed herself. Her mental skills are unaffected by the condition, effectively leaving her trapped in a body that no longer works. On top of that, 1 in 3 children with A-T develop cancer and many others also have chronic respiratory problems. Evie is not expected to live past her teens.
The 300km two day ride to Paris will stretch me to my limits and training for this has been a real challenge. I am not doing this for fun- I'm doing it because I'm trying raise as much as I can to make a difference for Evie.
Every pedal I turn is in the knowledge that Evie will, tragically, soon become too disabled to walk, let alone ride a bike. I also know that I will be doing this event at an age Evie is currently not expected to reach.
I'm raising money for research into A-T because I absolutely believe that medical science can change the prospects for children like Evie so please dig deep and help Action for A-T to make a difference!
