Story

Update

So now I’ve caught my breath and can walk again I thought I’d drop a message round following yesterdays Robin Hood Marathon. To keep it short and sweet, it went great, but the last 8km were ridiculously hard. That said, we still finished bang on target with a time of just under 3 hrs 29 minutes (largely thanks to Mike almost physically dragging me along at times)

More importantly, with regards to sponsorship, to be honest, it is hard to know where to even begin thanking you all for your kind words, support and extraordinary generosity. I set out thinking I might raise about £400 so set my sights on a target of £500. I could never have dreamed of, or envisaged a response like this. As it stands the total donations are £2,484. Many of you obviously know how overwhelmed I am but I’m not sure how to convey my appreciation to those of you I don’t speak with on a day to day basis. I’m just going to say a huge thank you to all of you who have contributed, and to those of you who continue to donate… it couldn’t have been done without you!!!! THANK YOU!

What I will say is that Macmillan who have been doing such amazing work to help people suffering the affects of Cancer will now be able to do even more to help; thanks to all of you. The £2,484 donated so far has already been sent but if you haven’t had chance or would like to help Macmillan, or just help me reach £2,500 by donating a few pounds, the page is still open with the top-right button. I’ve also uploaded some of the marathon photos below if you’d like to have a look.

Thanks again,

Alex

My Story

Cancer has affected nearly all of us in one way or another. I am now very nearly 5 years clear, but there's no forgetting the start of this story. To tell your parents you have cancer and watch the tears well up. To tell your sisters, your children, your friends. To sit down and write a will and a final letter, just encase it doesn't work out.

I am one of the lucky ones. Not just because I have pretty well beaten this disease, but that I had such a close network of family and friends to support me through it.

I saw so many others on the ward at Nottingham City Hospital who had no-one. No visitors to be strong for them. No family bringing them films and magazines to pass the time. No one to pick them up early in the morning to take them home. No one to just sit there with them.

5 years on I have decided that I really need to raise some money to help those living with Cancer and so have decided to run the Robin Hood Marathon round Nottingham on September 29th. One in three of us will get cancer and it’s the toughest thing most of us will ever face.

Macmillan provide support for so many who have none. It can be a lonely world out there, and it's even worse on there. Please watch the video in the gallery below, and then please be generous and give what you can.

THANK YOU VERY, VERY MUCH!

Alex.
