Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Walking the South Downs Way is such an enormous pleasure for me and it's a special thing for me to able to raise money for a charity which I really admire, the Funzi and Bodo Trust. They work in 2 villages in Kenya, running clinics, paying for operations and running a birthing room. They help children with malnutrition and have also built 2 schools. They've helped a women's group start a seaweed farming business so they can feed their families and this year have built the first 100 toilets on the island. They've also started a chicken farm which helps beat the malnutrition which many children suffer from. The charity was started by my boss, Ashley Peatfield, and is a truly wonderful organisation.
The way is 100 miles long and I've been walking it in stages over 3 years. It all started as a conversation over a bottle of wine with my friend Kate at a work conference. We don't live near each other, and we work hard, so it wasn't possible to do the whole way in one go. We decided to meet up once a year to do it, until it was done. That was nearly 3 years ago. In July, we'll be walking the final 40 miles over 3 days.
Just taking the time to do these big walks has made such a big difference to my life, got me fit, and given me the pleasure of seeing the countryside I love in a slow and gentle way. I was diagnosed with bladder cancer the year before the first walk, and it helped me get fit again.
