One Small a Step for PWS - Kent Walk · 27 September 2015
Hi pals!
I'm sure some of you are wondering wether it's wise to do a 6 mile walk with the sassiest 4 year old ever, but luckily Sophia loves being outside!
PWS is something I hadn't even hard of before meeting my wonderful friends Emma and Tim Golds. My only experience of PWS has been through their son, Leo. Leo is one of the happiest, sweetest and loveliest children I've ever met. The work emma and Tim do to help Leo develop as a child is incredible, and any help and support they can get with that seems a hugely worthy cause in my opinion. So dig deep, friends! :)
The International One SMALL Step walk series is a way for everybody in the PWS community to work together to help raise awareness and much needed funding for research into Prader-Willi Syndrome.
This is the first one we've organised in Kent (UK) and we are hoping to make it an annual event. As well as raising sponsorship we hope to have a fun day out in the Kentish countryside, with a beautiful 6 mile walk followed by a BBQ and live music afterwards.
If you are interested to join the walk you are more than welcome, please email tim@fpwr.org.uk to book your place.

WHAT IS PRADER-WILLI SYNDROME?
Prader-Willi syndrome (PWS) is a genetic disorder that occurs in approximately one out of every 15,000 births. PWS is recognised as the most common genetic cause of life threatening childhood obesity. PWS is caused by loss of active genetic material on chromosome 15. This affects:
• hormones • muscle strength • appetite • behaviour • cognition and learning • temperature regulation • pain tolerance • sleep patterns
Behaviour problems are common and worsened by an unrelenting, overriding physiological drive to eat. For someone with PWS, the feeling of fullness after eating is absent.
THE MISSION
The mission of FPWR is to eliminate the challenges of Prader-Willi syndrome through the advancement of research.
FPWR is dedicated to fostering and supporting research that will advance the understanding and treatment of PWS. To date, FPWR has invested over £2,500,000 in funding to leading scientists and research laboratories around the world that research PWS.
