Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
This summer I will be teaching English in Kayamundi, South Africa, for six weeks as part of Warwick in Africa.
Warwick in Africa is a scheme that aims to enhance the education of young people in Africa. It was established in 2006 and each year sends students from the University of Warwick to volunteer as English and Mathematics teachers in 28 secondary schools across Ghana, South Africa and Tanzania. The scheme has also established teacher training workshops and exchange programmes between the University of Warwick and partner schools in an attempt to create more long-term, sustainable impacts in addressing educational inequality.
Education is an immeasurably empowering tool and I am thoroughly excited to be involved in this opportunity, beyond simply the prospect of immersing myself in a new culture. Having been fortunate enough to attend university, I have continuously witnessed the importance of teachers and the influence that they can have on a student’s learning and attitude to life. I am acutely aware, however, of my limitations as a student volunteer in attempting to tackle deep-rooted issues, such as educational inequality. Thus, through teaching English and engaging with students I aspire to use my restricted position to at least show learners how applying oneself within the classroom can transform life beyond it.
I am aiming to raise £1,000 and would greatly appreciate any donations,
little or large, to help me reach my personal target. £10 can teach one child for a month through Warwick in Africa and all donations go to the programme. Your contributions will enable the scheme to continue improving facilities and educational standards in partner schools, and consequently keep making a difference.
Thank you so much in advance!
