Over 150,000 of us in the UK have MS. It’s unpredictable and different for everyone. But it doesn’t have to be this way. We’re the MS Society. We understand what life’s like with MS. We're here for you through the highs, lows and everything in between. Together, we are strong enough to stop MS.

Story

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. Please dig deep and sponsor me online.

In September 2010, I will be climbing with my friend Lee Abbott to raise money for the Multiple Sclerosis Society. The MS Society is the 's largest charity dedicated to the 85,000 people and their families and carers who are affected by this devastating disease of the central nervous system.

The MS Society is very important to me and my family as I lost my mum to the condition 8 years ago and my sister was also diagnosed with MS 10 years ago, even though MS has never been proven to be hereditary.

In April 2008 I ran the Flora London Marathon and raised £3,400 for the same charity. From this experience I realised how hard but rewarding it is to raise so much money for such a worthy cause.

My target for this challenge was £3,500 which would make a huge difference in aiding ongoing research for treatment and, hopefully, to help find a cure in the future. Lee has the same target, and you can visit his page at www.justgiving.com\lee-abbott

I have now reached my goal of £3,500, thank you very much for you kind donations. I have set myself a new target of £6,000 - which I hope to reach before our trip.

I have recently spoke in an interview on BBC Radio Suffolk who will also be following our progress in the new year as our gruelling training continues, with regular features followed by another interview closer to the event where I would be happy to mention any big sponsors to show our appreciation.

All donations well help research with a hope of finding more effective treatments, and ultimately a cure.

Our Itinerary:

DAY 1: Overnight flight – Kilimanjaro

DAY 2: Arrive Kilimanjaro. Transfer to our hotel close to the park entrance.

DAY 3: Trek from Marangu through dense forest, surrounded by beautiful wild flowers, to Mandara Hut. (2744m). 4 hours

DAY 4: Uphill trail to Horombo Hut. More rugged and rocky terrain today as we reach cloud level. (3761m). 7-8 hours

DAY 5: Acclimatisation day so your body gets used to the altitude. Spectacular views. Overnight back at Horombo Hut. (4200m). 5 hours

DAY 6: Surrounded by mountain flora and fauna in the morning. Enter the desert zone after lunch. Slow going today due to the altitude. Overnight at Kibo Hut. (4732m). 7-8 hours

DAY 7: A half day trek to get used to the high altitude. Time to rest before summit day. (5000m). 5 hours

DAY 8: Start just after midnight on a slow steep ascent to Gilman’s Point. (5685m). Watch the stunning sunrise and congratulate ourselves on climbing Kilimanjaro! 15-17 hours

DAY 9: Descend to Gate. 6-7 hours

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor us: Multiple Sclerosis Society of Great Britain & Northern Ireland gets your money faster and, if you’re a taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

So please sponsor me now!
