Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Last year, riding on the crest of a successful York 10 mile run I foolishly entered the marathon. By January I had pretty much decided this wouldn’t happen but I was safe in the knowledge I could just “downgrade” my place back to the 10 mile race. Relax I thought, there’s others years, you’re busy, its just tooooo far, you’re not really a RUNNER….accept it.

Then in April something happened which rocked our world. A dear friend of mine, full term pregnant went into labour. There was nothing to worry about, everything was normal and I even sent jokes over about taking a couple of paracetamol and all would be fine.

It wasn’t fine. Little Atticus was born on the 13th April and even though he was perfect, he just couldn’t breathe. The team at York worked hard and fought to save him but at just 6 hours old he lost his fight.

There are no words to describe how devastating this has been to the family and all who surround them. In an instant everything is different and unfortunately, there are no answers. Once the initial shock had settled, I knew that I wanted to do something that would recognise he was here and that would continue the memory of him.

SO – I’m running the bloody marathon after all and I am doing it to raise money for the Special Care Baby Unit at York Hospital who were so wonderful during and after Atti’s short life. The training is awful and I’m not even very good at it but I’m doing it and whatever it takes I will get round. Its actually an honour that I’m running it for Atti and I know I’ll never forget him or the challenge he has inspired me to do. So please, any spare bits of cash you have would be so very gratefully received.

Thanks for reading my story
