Alice and Lucy's MARATONA DE LISBOA page

MARATONA DE LISBOA · 20 October 2019
I'm training to be a Nurse and have been able to meet some of the youth workers at RedThread whilst on placement at St Marys, Paddington's Major Trauma Centre, which covers the North West quadrant of London.
Whilst on the ward, my eyes have been opened to the serious youth violence that is occurring in London at the moment. The UK's surge in knife crime has been reported in the news a lot but nothing can prepare you for the extensive injuries and mental health issues affecting victims of violence at such a young age.
The RedThread team are there, by the bedside, in every instance. They provide a trusting relationship and support system, to make the patients feel safe at a time when they are at their most vulnerable and often very alone. I cant stress enough that their presence and expertise is total blessing.
Lucy is the motivator for us running this crazy distance in Lisbon and I would not be able to do it without her! When I told her about RedThread she backed it 100%. We both care about this a lot. Support for young people is extremely underfunded.
RedThread are experts at disrupting the cruel cycle of violence that can too easily lead to re-attendance, re-injury, and devastated communities -
they are AMAZING.
Please help and donate whatever you can :)
Thank you,
Alice xx
