Hello Everyone,

Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

2013 will be the year that I will complete my first ever marathon and Brighton will be the place!  Over the last few years, I have been slowly building up from being able to run just half a mile to 26.  This achievement will be special to me and I am setting myself an additional challenge of raising money for the Meningitis Research Foundation. 

12 years ago, my husband Sonny contracted meningococcal septicaemia and he battled the disease in hospital for one month.  He is considered to be one of the lucky ones to have survived without serious long term physical after effects and we are fortunate to be able to celebrate Sonny's 40th birthday this year.

Other families are not so lucky.  For this reason, the MRF is a charity which is very close to both our hearts.  The MRF:

-  Promote public awareness of symptoms to allow earlier treatment, which is crucial as the disease strikes suddenly

-  Provide counselling, home visits and befriending network to impacted individuals and their families 

-  Issues funding grants for medical research projects around the world, working towards prevention/detection/treatment
