We‘re the world‘s leading cancer charity dedicated to saving and improving lives through research. We fund research into the prevention, detection and treatment of more than 200 types of cancer through the work of over 4,000 scientists, doctors and nurses.

Story

In June 2009, I told my Father that I would run a marathon. At that point in my life, the furthest I had ever run was 2 miles.

In August 2009 my Father passed away to cancer.

On Sunday 22nd April 2012, I hope to achieve my dream of running a marathon. My Father will be with me in my heart every step of the way.

I have been offered a place to run in the London Marathon 2012 by the charity Cancer Research UK. I am a 'Golden Bond Runner'. This means that in return for the place they have offered me, I have pledged to raise 2000 British pounds for them.

My Father battled Stage 4 cancer for over a year. Any support we can offer to Cancer charities will help with their research and hopefully one day, a cure will be found.

Since June 2008, I have completed the HK half marathon twice.

I love running. Being a runner means so much to me and I feel really grateful that I have been given the opportunity to take part in a really brilliant event doing something I love whilst raising money for an amazing cause.

Running in London will be just great because I was born on the outskirts (don't be fooled by my Northern accent!) and plus it means my AWESOME family can all come and watch me run and meet me at the end armed with pizza and a big glass, or maybe a bottle, of wine (All my Drakes-Mum, Paul, Rob and Steph...you have all applied for time off work, right?...right?!).

I would be really grateful for your support. I need to reach my target. If I don't, I will happily donate it all myself. This honestly means so much to me.

Please be aware that donations are in British pounds, not HK$.

Thank you very much. I really appreciate your support.

Also: I will be grateful for any help compiling the most awesomest running music playlist ever!  Email me suggestions please! alisondrake@hotmail.com
