Alison to run the Virgin London Marathon 2015

Virgin London Marathon 2015 · 26 April 2015 ·
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
At the end of 2013 my daughter was diagnosed with Stargardts Disease. She is gradually loosing her central vision and unfortunately there is no cure. She is coping well at the moment and has special aides that she can use to help her day to day and extra provisions put in place for her at school.
Sight is something we all take for granted until we loose it ,and no parent wants to hear that there child could go blind.
Cornwall Blind Association (soon to be called iSight Cornwall) say life need not stop because of sight loss and made contact with us and offered their support and help for now and in the future. They also importantly for us have a group called kids sight where we have been put in touch with other families in similiar situations and they organise days out for children across Cornwall that are affected with sight difficulties.
There are estimated to be 19,000 people in Cornwall with some form of sight loss and Cornwall Blind Association offer emotional and practical help to anyone living with sight loss, either by visiting the sight centre at Truro or by bringing their range of services directly out to your home. They can provide low vision assessments, advice on assistive technology, benefits advice, lifts to hospital appointments, befriending service and as you can imagine are a lifeline to many people.
At the moment there is no cure for Stargardts Disease so our family has had to adapt to make sure that our daughter leads a life as independant as possible. Cornwall Blind Associations web site is full of practical help and advice and I regular find myself typing out the web site address when I have questions that I can't answer or need advice.
Please sponsor me to run 26 miles in April so that I can say thank you to such a great bunch of people that really do make a difference.
