Story
12 months ago, I met a lovely lady through a local running club, who told me she was an Admiral Nurse. I had no idea what this was, but as we trained together for a half marathon, I would listen to how much she loved her work and Id listen to her talk about the people she was caring for. Although the innocent were protected due to confidentiality, I listened to this lady with awe and began to understand her compassion for her clients and I realised her job wasn't a job, but a vocation. I was inspired listening to her love of her role and also of her clients and the dedication that she shows to her clients at all hours of the day or night.
I now count this lady as one of my "bestest friends" in the whole world and although I do not have a close member of my family suffering from dementia or even a friend, if I did, this wonderful Admiral Nurse would be there for me - or one of her suitably wonderful colleagues.
If, like me, you didn't know what Admiral Nurses are, they are a fabulous lifeline to thousands of people in the country. They are mental health nurses specialising in dementia care. If you are caring for someone who has dementia, an Admiral nurse can offer psychological support, practical advice and information on dementia.
Please support me as I run a 10k around Croxteth Country park dressed up as a vampire and being scared half to death by a series of "grim reapers"!! and in turn, you will be supporting a fabulous charity.
Thanks for inspiring me Rachael Clarke - you are an inspiration.
