I am raising money for the Rifles Trust through my participation in the  Ride Across Britain cycling event. I will be cycling from John O'Groats to Land's End over nine days - averaging 115 miles per day - camping overnight. 600 people are taking part, raising money for a variety of causes. My family has a long association with the Rifles Regiment, which is why I have chosen it.

The Rifles, one of our most famous infantry regiments, have returned from a gruelling seven month tour of Afghanistan.  Sadly during the tour the Battlegroup lost thirty of its soldiers killed, and many more wounded, many of those with life changing injuries.  One can only guess at the care that will be required for those with non physical injuries in the coming months and years.

The Rifles Trust helps fund projects that provide support and assistance for the families of the dead and wounded as well as the wounded themselves.

The bottom line is that they risked their lives and bodies on our behalf and we need to do everything we can to support them and their families and to show our appreciation of their sacrifices.
