Half-Marathon for Katie

Edinburgh Rock and Roll Half Marathon 2013 · 14 April 2013 ·
Marathon (and Half-Marathon) for Katie – 2013.
On 9 February 2001 our first child and beloved daughter, Katie, was stillborn in Aberdeen only a few days before her due date. The twelve years which have passed have not diminished our own feelings of loss and unfairness which took Katie’s life away from her. Clare and I now have two beautiful girls, Fleur (9) and Esmé (6), to complete our family and it is about time I did something not only to remember Katie but also to assist other parents who have to go through the excruciating agony of losing a child. I have decided to raise money for SANDS, the Stillbirth and Neo-natal Death Charity.
After commencing running in only 2011 and completing several 10Ks and Half-Marathons last year, I have taken on my ultimate challenge of completing the Edinburgh Full Marathon on Sunday, 26 May 2013. 26 miles and 385 yards of pain on the day and 593 miles (or so) in my 18 week intensive training programme is the least I can do to justify your donations and sponsorship. All contributions are most welcome and I hope to achieve my modest goal of £500 and hopefully much more with your help!
I have also decided to run the Rock ‘n Roll Half-Marathon on 14 April as part of my training and will also seek to raise funds for a local based charity, SANDS Lothian.
The pain and devastation of losing a child, either stillborn or soon after birth, is not something which can easily be put into words. SANDS offered Clare and I meaningful advice and information to help us rebuild our lives after losing Katie. I should be very grateful if you could support my efforts and donate generously.
Thank you very much indeed.
Alistair, Clare, Fleur and Esmé Drummond.
