Alzheimer’s Research UK is the UK’s leading dementia research charity. We’re striving for a cure, by revolutionising the way we treat, diagnose and prevent dementia.

Story

It's been a long time since I did any proper exercise, the last 3 years have been taken over by children, and before that it was the occasional 5 a side for 13 years.

Having been coerced into running a half marathon with some friends, I've been dragging my body and decrepit knees around Southampton over the last couple of months to get some semblance of fitness.

With one week to go, I'm relatively confident of getting round 13 or so miles.  But the additional motivation of raising money for a charity that is affecting my family has led me to setup this page.

Anything you can give will help in the fight against dementia and hopefully, one day we can overcome it.

Dementia affects over 850,000 people in the UK and numbers are increasing
Around 38% of the UK population know a close friend or family member with dementia
At £24 billion each year, dementia costs the UK economy more than cancer and heart disease combined
£20 could fund one hour of vital research
£50 could provide access to specialist equipment for studying cells
£120 could support complex protein analysis

Much love

Alistair
