In the next few months I'll be completing 3 big cycling challenges with the goal to raise money for Together, for mental wellbeing.
I'll be completing:
all within 7 days of riding time.
Together are a national charity that set up projects all over the country working alongside people on their journey towards better mental wellbeing and independent lives. Having close family and friends that have been affected directly and indirectly by mental ill health, this has particular significance to us, with Emily now working for Together as part of the York Pathways project. York Pathways offers free, personalised, one-to-one support to adults (aged 18-65) experiencing mental distress who may repeatedly make contact with emergency services, or are at risk of entering the criminal justice system. They work with individuals across all levels of mental health need and complexity. This includes working with people who have complex needs, such as substance misuse issues or a history of offending.
To help raise funds for the valuable work Together perform I'm taking part in 3 big challenges that will push me beyond any of my previous events. I will be cycling a cross on the map of the UK going between all 4 sides (West-East, then South-North), and then venturing over the channel in my final challenge.
My goal is to raise £1 per Km cycled that we cycle. So for each £ you donate I'll attribute that distance of the journey to you, allowing me to share any thoughts/picture and hopefully not too many aches and pains for each km that you donate towards. Plus you may even receive a free punctured inner tube should I get a flat during the Km you donated to.
My first challenge on the 14/15th of April is completing the Coast-to-Coast cycle route following the "Way of the Roses" route, completing the ~275km (170 miles) in under 24 hours unsupported. Drawing a West-East line of the map of the UK.
Three weeks later on the 5th of May we'll be starting the famous Land's End to John o'Groats journey without escort, allowing 14 days of riding, we aim to complete ~1750km (1087 miles) in under 96 hours of riding (climbing over 21,000m). Finishing off the cross on the UK with this South-North journey. The journey will take us first south from Land's End to the southern most point (Lizard Point) then over to skirt the edge of Dartmoor, up the steep climbs of Cheddar Gorge, on through the Cotswolds and over to the Malvern Hills, then up through the Peak District, into the Lake District, then around the Lochs of Scotland before stopping off at most Northern point (Dunnet Head) before finally reaching John o'Groats.
Finally after a bit of a break, on the 20/21th June my last challenge will be completing another 1-day event. With Anaplan I'll be cycling from the London office to the Paris office a distance of ~300km (186 miles) in under 24 hours unsupported.
