Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am rowing the length of Lake Windermere with a team from work to raise money for Grocery Aid!
This charity aims to "make life better for people within the grocery industry, from factory to store, we help everyone." Grocery Aid offers real help to real life problems for those who work in the grocery industry.
I have never been rowing before so this 18km challenge might not be the best place to start, I've heard it has taken teams over 4 hours in the past, but its for a great cause so any donations will be much appreciated!
Grocery Aid help people in the grocery industry in five ways:
- Financial Help
E.g. If people are behind on rent. They also offer welfare case workers to ensure that people have appliances needed for modern living such as washing machines.
- Emergency grants
E.g. To help with boiler or roof repairs.
- Mobility items
E.g. Scooters, wheelchairs and stair lifts are available.
- Extra Help in Holidays
E.g. Helping in the busy times at Christmas and Easter, providing vouchers and coupons to help beneficiaries when it can be a difficult time of year financially.
- Grocery Aid Helpline
This is one of the most powerful ways. This phone line offers advice and help with financial support, personal issues, career support, health issues (physical and mental), telephone counselling, and help with depression and anxiety.
Some of they people they help could be:
- Employees and colleagues in supermarkets, wholesalers and convenience stores
- Men and woman on the factory floors
- The packers and the stackers!
- The people on the tills
