Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

You may remember I took part in the Weymouth Ironman in September 2014. I found the training gruelling but the achievement at the end was worth it, and the fundraising was amazing. Thank you.

I have decided to take on another challenge in the Marathon des Sables in April. The ‘ultra-marathon’ is known as the toughest race on Earth, with competitors running with their food and kit for 6 days over a course of 150 miles through the Sahara desert. Quite a challenge I know. My training involves running over to 50 miles a week, often with a heavy back pack to prepare for carrying my provisions for the race.

I have decided to take on this challenge in memory of Michelle Zalkin, and to raise money for the MSC Scholarship Fund set up in her name at University College London, which funds specialist child protection training for doctors. Michelle was a close friend and a leading Paeditrician who specialised in child public health and was responsible for dealing with the worst cases of child neglect in the UK. Michelle passed away two years ago after a long battle with cancer. Her family set up the scholarship to give other qualified paediatric specialists the opportunity to take the University College Masters in Paediatrics and Child Health that Michelle studied.

Please support me by donating to this charity which is very close to our hearts and by cheering me on if you see me pounding the streets of Bermuda & London!

Many thanks for your support in advance, Alun & Elyna
