On Sunday October 6th this year I will be running the Bournemouth marathon to raise money for Guts UK(formerly core). I will be doing this in memory of my lovely mum, Diane, who died 23rd December 2017 as a result of Chronic Intestinal Pseudo-obstruction (CIP).

CIP is an overall term for several rare conditions which can affect the gut. Symptoms, which include severe abdominal pain, can mimic those of bowel obstruction and frequently result in repeated admissions through the emergency department. Diagnosis can be difficult and may take many years to reach. Sadly it took 13 years to reach a diagnosis for my mum, during which time her daily life and activities were severely affected.

Currently there is no cure for CIP. However Mum was always determined that somewhere, somehow an answer would be found and there would be hope for others living with CIP.

So hopefully by running this marathon and raising a few pounds!!, we can all take steps and maybe huge leaps towards finding a cure. This one's for you mum. Xxx
