Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I sincerely appreciate your support.
I am honored to be running the 2018 London Marathon on behalf of Amnesty International. Founded in London in 1961, Amnesty continues to fight for human rights all over the world, because no one should be denied the basic privileges of humanity due to their beliefs or their identity.
My experiences as a runner have served to remind me how fortunate I am. I have the resources and freedom to combine two of my loves--running and travel--by venturing to races in new countries and cities. I try not to take those privileges for granted, and it means a lot to me to run this particular race on behalf of an organization doing the important work of human rights awareness and advocacy.
This work is critical, now as ever. I am sickened to hear certain world leaders demonize refugees with no regard for people abandoned to violence, or for families torn apart. As powerless as I feel, as just one person, to stop the rhetoric of hate from poisoning our society, Amnesty has shown that by uniting in common action, individuals can change the world for the better.
In this spirit, I humbly ask for your help in reaching my fundraising goal. Every little bit you can contribute is appreciated, and will go toward funding work on:
- Monitoring human rights abuses,
- Raising awareness of human rights,
- Researching human rights issues,
- Seeking justice for victims of abuses, and
- Advocating for human rights on an international level.
Thank you so much,
Amanda
