As many of you know, Amber was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes back in April of this year. She manages a regime of daily finger prick tests and insulin injections with real bravery. She is an inspiration to all of us and hasn't let the diabetes stop her from doing anything! But it's definitely hard sometimes, and it's going to be a long journey through the teenage years and into adulthood for her, dealing with all the complications that diabetes brings, along with the usual 'growing up' challenges.
Type 1 diabetes is a life long, chronic condition. The rate of people affected by type 1 diabetes is increasing by four percent annually, particularly in children under 5.
Amber has decided to do the 5k London Bridges Walk, to help raise money for JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation). JDRF was established by a group of parents and children with type 1 diabetes. They believed that more had to be done to speed up the search for a cure.
JDRF raises money to drive world-class research, providing funds for the very best projects, wherever they happen to be around the world. They aim to find new ways to treat type 1 diabetes and its complications, prevent type 1 from developing in the first place and find the cure for people who already have the condition. They are also the people who gave Amber a teddy bear in hospital and a fantastic book explaining diabetes clearly and simply for children! These small things can make a world of difference too!
Amber would really appreciate your support in sponsoring her and raising money for this fantastic organisation - even a donation of £1 would be great!
