Charcot-Marie-Tooth UK (formerly CMT United Kingdom) is the national support group for people affected by Charcot-Marie-Tooth Disease, aka Hereditary Motor and Sensory Neuropathy. We provide advice, support and information for people with the condition, family, carers and medical professionals.

Story

Amber is 7 years old. Last year (after many years back and forth to medical appointments) she was diagnosed with a genetic disorder - CMT Type 4C.

This means that the nerves in her arms and legs are not getting the correct messages and make her trip up and become clumsy. The easiest way to explain to Amber what she has was to say that her nerves are broken. This is a progressive disorder and over time will become worse. Amber is likely to get Scoliosis (a curved spine) which will mean the possibility of corrective surgery and dependency on a wheelchair. Amber really wants to help raise money for the doctors and nurses to research CMT and to find a cure.

Doing the half marathon is completely Amber's idea. As her mum I was extremely hesitant. Doing all the training and the marathon itself will be a huge challenge. The school will be doing the 12 miles spread out over the next month or so (this has already begun) and Amber will run the 13th mile on the day of the half marathon in front of lots of spectators and alongside lots of other runners.

Please help Amber to reach her target. She is very determined and passionate about this cause and is already making excellent progress in her training - despite the bruised legs from tripping!

Both Nigel and I are so so proud of Amber! Please share xxx
