Hadrians Wall - Coast to Coast across England (Wallsend to Bowness-on-Solway) · 26 May 2018

Jimmy’s is a community-based charity with the belief that no-one should have to sleep rough in Cambridge. We provide safe places that people can call home. From emergency accommodation at our East Road shelter, longer term care at our multiple needs centre and in supported houses and modular homes.

About our Challenge:

  • Our walk is roughly 84miles or over 135km!
  • We need to complete it in 6 and a half days
  • We are carrying our supplies but we are staying in pubs, wood cabins and B&B's

Why Give to Jimmy's Cambridge:

We wanted to do something special and challenging with our precious family time. We also thought it would be wonderful to do something special for people who are not as lucky as we are. When we thought about a cause to support we thought first of children (some poor, some ill, some badly treated), then we thought about animals (some becoming extinct, some needing homes) and then we thought about doing something that we have had seen in our very special and lucky community. Seeing homeless people especially when it is really cold and raining makes us feel really sad. At Christmas time we give some money and gifts to people and last year we made lovely cards and wrote to them. In our cards we promised not to remember them just at Christmas so this seems a nice way to raise some money for food and shelter for homeless people in Cambridge. Jimmy was a real homeless man in Cambridge who lots of local people knew and talked to and he sadly died many winters ago due to the severe weather. This charity is set up to try to avoid this ever happening again. Jimmy's provides fresh meals, somewhere to wash and relax and simply to talk to people.

Channel 4 reported that 81 homeless people have died on the streets since October 2017 in England.
