Thank you to everyone for sponsoring us!
Amnesty have raised over £5,000 to date from this event which is a lovely crimbo bonus for our budgets!
The money will be donated directly to Amnesty International – a human rights organisation that protects individuals wherever justice, fairness, freedom and truth are denied.
For example we are highlighting the case of Hakamada Iwao from Japan. He has spent the last 40 years on death row convicted of a crime he says he did not commit. Aged 73, he is one of Japans longest-serving death row inmates. In Japan people on death row are often kept in solitary confinement, believing that they could be executed any day. This is because inmates are not given a date of when the execution will take place, with their family members often finding out only after their loved ones have been executed. This causes severe anxiety that often leads to psychosis for the inmates waiting on death row in Japan. Norimichi Kumamoto, one of three judges who presided over the trial of Hakamada Iwao said: 'I could not convince the other two judges that Hakamada was not guilty so I had to convict him as the decision was made by majority ... I pray for his exoneration every day'. If you would like to take action for this case (it takes two minutes to send an email or print out a letter) go to www.amnesty.org.uk/teamamnestyaction So – chuck us your gold sovereigns, come and cheer us across the finish line in Greenwich Park on December 6th and share a glass of mulled wine afterwards! Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
