Story
On November 14th, Amos Ruiz will be taking to the Credit Suisse has Talent stage for the third, and final, time. For his grand finale, Amos will perform a 'Justin Timbaland' dance tribute, sure to be a crowd pleaser.
Credit Suisse has Talent is one of the highlights of the Charity of the Year calendar, and this year is aiming to raise enough money to fund two play workers at Great Ormond Street Hospital.
The Play Team is a crucial part of our patients’ treatment, often making the difference between a successful or an unsuccessful stay for the patient and their family at the hospital. Spending time in hospital can be very worrying and frightening for a child, but these feelings can be minimised with help from the child’s play worker along with the other members of their treatment team.
Play can help children and young people deal with fears or worries about hospital as well as their illness or treatment. If a child has a procedure or operation coming up, a play specialist will use distraction therapy to teach them ways of coping with a difficult or painful procedure, like a blood test or dressing change. The play team also arranges special celebrations for birthdays, or to mark big events like the Olympic or the X Factor final, helping to prevent the children from feeling like they are missing out on events outside of the hospital. They are a vitally important part of a child's treatment team, and make a big difference to his or her hospital experience.
