Arctic One believes that sport should be accessible to all and aims to provide individuals and groups with disabilities the opportunity to get involved in sport and become more active. The charity mainly achieves this through their events and training days and their “Forward Motion” grant system.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

On Sunday  22 May 2022, myself and Andrew will be taking part in the Somerset 100 with British Cycling. We will be aiming to complete 165km / 100 miles. This is Andrew’s longest cycle, by a long way and myself only having done one 100 miles event, this will be my hardest course, with a hard section towards the end, along with helping getting Andrew round, whom is really new to cycling any miles.  We can be shattered after 80km and this particular cycle, 80km will only be just half way round!

We both work full time so squeezing some miles in around this. I work for a local hospital and Andrew works for a communication provider.

I wanted to say thank you to Arctic One for their recent generous donation through their ‘Forward Motion’ grant helping to purchase my recent gravel bike to help stay off the roads and keep my cycling through the winter. Photos included on this page. I have only been cycling a few years and built up my mileage out of boredom I guess when one revision surgery left me not walking / fully weight bearing whereby I spent a year swapping wheelchair wheels for bike wheels until I receive further surgery.

I get so much from cycling, physically and mentally and actually my residual limb / circulation and prosthetic fit is reliant on this. Well-being is sooooo important. Cycling generally my go to pain free breath of fresh air.

Andrew and I are also both part of Arctic Ones Billion Meter challenge.

have known Matt for over 5 years now. In between being an Artist and his own charity raising, Matt Kirby works completely free for his Charity to help disabled people, adults and children participate in sports with his Forward Motion Grant. We benefit from inclusivity with the events he hosts, online and offline. Arctic One is famous for its year Tri Festival at Dorney Lake. Arctic some also helps aid participants health and well-being.
