I have suffered from generalised idiopathic epilepsy since the age of 11. Epilepsy is a brain disorder in which clusters of nerve cells , or neurons, in the brain sometimes signal abnormally causing strange sensations, emotions and behaviour change ,sometimes convulsions, muscle spasms, and loss of consciousness. Epilepsy is not just falling and having a convulsion , sometimes it is unnoticeable while the person is sitting next to you. THERE IS STILL NO CURE. There is certain Medications that help control all the signals. These medications create other illnesses for most epileptics. In my experience of having epilepsy I have suffered from many other things as an outcome of the medicine I am taking for instance, depression, high levels of anxiety, polycystic ovaries, high cholesterol. These are additions to being epileptic. Being a epileptic you have to make many sacrifices in your life for instance not being able to work full time or at all , seeing people that you love , care about when you want to because your always tired, not being able to drive and many more things. Lots of people are taking a risk to be on their own when they have not been controlled so therefore are living in fear. I had a friend from school who passed away sadly too young who also had epilepsy. She was an amazing person full of life . I would like to also dedicate this run to Karina. I would like to share with everyone this message. You can’t control everything that happens to you in life but know there is light of every tunnel and there is always someone worse off then you so always stay happy and grateful for everything. Please remember YOUR HEALTH IS YOUR WEALTH. Thank you for reading and also your contribution to the National Epileptic Society. If you would like to find out more about epilepsy please visit -
