10k run for Tearfund! · 4 February 2013

We're a Christian aid and development agency, following Jesus to the places of greatest need to respond to disasters and help communities unlock their own potential to overcome poverty. We won't stop until poverty stops.

Story

Hey friends! Thanks for visiting my Justgiving page!

On 24th March, I'll be doing a 10k run for Tearfund! I'm not a great runner so I know this is going to be a big challenge, but it's all for a good cause :)

The reason I'm doing this is because on 14th April (just a couple of weeks after the big run) I'll be going on a 10-week trip to Rwanda with Tearfund via the International Citizen Service (ICS) scheme. This is a government-funded programme that gives young people the opportunity to help in the fight against poverty in different developing countries around the world. ICS run this programme through a number of different organisations, and I’ve chosen to go with Tearfund because they’re great!

Tearfund has a vision to see 50 million people released from material and spiritual poverty through a worldwide network of 100,000 local churches, and I’m so excited to be able to play a little part in that. If you want to find more about the work that Tearfund do, here’s the link:

In Rwanda, I will be based in the capital city of Kigali working on a project focused around water and sanitation. Water is an essential part of life that a lot of us take for granted, but for the 780 MILLION people around the world who don’t have access to clean water and the 2.5 BILLION people who lack access to adequate sanitation, it’s a matter of life and death.

I’m hoping to raise £800 that will go to Tearfund, not the cost of the trip. As I mentioned, one of the ways I’ll be raising the money is by doing a sponsored 10k run through Brussels! I’ve already started my training, and it’s definitely going to be a challenge. I’ll keep you updated with my progress as I go along, but I can tell you now that so far I can run 4k on a treadmill without collapsing  :) So a long way to go!

I would be eternally grateful for any small donation you can afford. Sorry for the cliché but every little helps!

Thanks so so much for taking the time to read this, you are truly lovely!
