The 3 Peak Challenge · 13 July 2019
Almost 4 years ago our family extended from 3 to 4 with the happy arrival of our 2nd baby boy Finley. Relatively early on it became clear that Fin was not developing as expected and he also started to suffer from repeated respiratory infections requiring hospital admission. This lead to a very challenging, exhausting and worrisome 2.5 years of hospital appointments, diagnostic tests, medications and referrals to therapies such as physio, SALT and OT. Finley has been absolutely amazing at tolerating these investigations and has become such a determined, strong willed little boy who is loved by many for his infectious giggle!! Currently Fin has a diagnosis of global developmental delays, dysphagia, reflux and constipation. He is non verbal and working towards eventually using signs/symbols to communicate.
A huge addition to the stress of the above was trying to complete the vast array of forms and paperwork required to get the help and support needed. It took over a year of constant chasing to get Fin an EHCP to enable him to attend a local special needs school. This means he has access to therapies on site on a daily basis and is surrounded by staff who have the skills to help him thrive. Our persistence has proven to be well worth the effort as Fin has been making fantastic progress since starting in September and has already learnt to walk completely unaided very small distances! It’s also meant that although some appointments and tests continue, there is more quality time to enjoy as a family with both our children.
MASKS is the PTA charity for Fins new school and we would love to raise some much needed funds to continue to support such a fantastic setting, helping over 300 children with a range of complex needs from autism to profound learning and physical disabilities.
Please help us achieve our target and complete this brave challenge by donating whatever you can today! Sprinz and Nash Veterinary Hospital have very kindly sponsored me the entire challenge fee so all funds raised here will go direct to MASKS along with gift aid and make a real difference to these amazing children!
