When I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis it prompted an (early) mid-life crisis. The sudden realisation that I wasn't actually invincible and may not be able to rely on my health in the future, made me realise that if there were things I wanted to do with my life I'd better get on and do them. So, I made a list of three things: 1) Run the London Marathon, 2) Write a book and 3) Travel to China. I am starting with number 1 and I want to raise as much money as I possibly can for the MS Society in the process.
I have always loved the London marathon, watching thousands of ordinary people attempting something extraordinary. 26 miles is a ridiculously long way to run and I can't wait to see if I can do it.
I am just one of over 100,000 people in the UK affected by MS. Most of us are diagnosed in our 20s and 30s. It is a complex, unpredictable condition and many of the symptoms are invisible to others. No one knows what causes MS and there isn't a cure, yet. More research is desperately needed.
