At least 21 people with epilepsy in the UK die each week. SUDEP Action, is the only UK charity dedicated to supporting those bereaved by epilepsy, raising awareness of epilepsy risks and tackling deaths in people with epilepsy, including Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy (SUDEP).

Story

Thank you for visiting this Just Giving page. In memory of my lovely cousin Catherine, I will be swapping my speechie revision notes for walking boots and walking 80 miles of the Thames Valley Path, over 5 days (with a little help from friends and family who’ll be joining me at various points along the way!). I’m walking from Reading (where I am shortly graduating as a Speech and Language Therapist) to City Uni in London (where Catherine was studying Speech and Language Therapy when she died).

Catherine passed away in her sleep from Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy (SUDEP), in October 2006 aged 22, whilst in her third year of the degree. There are 3 epilepsy-related deaths a day in the UK, the majority from SUDEP in young and healthy people. However, SUDEP still isn’t fully understood by medical professionals and lots of families, like ours, aren’t aware it can happen until it does. SUDEP Action does brilliant work funding research into how SUDEP can be prevented and supporting the bereaved families affected.

Catherine would have been a fabulous Speech and Language Therapist so I’m looking forward to celebrating her life and raising awareness of SUDEP.

Thank you for any pennies you can spare in support of SUDEP Action!!
