Land's End to John O'Groats Challenge

Amy Dyson is raising money for Hearing Dogs For Deaf People

Land's End to John O'Groats Conqueror Challenge · 6 September 2021

We train amazing hearing dogs to transform the lives of deaf people

Story

Hearing Dogs came into my family's life 25 years ago and we have not looked back since. If you want to know more, we can all wax lyrical about the tremendous help that Scampi and then Dino have been, so make sure you tell us if you only want a short answer if you ask for more information!

I'm taking on the Land's End to John O'Groats Conqueror Challenge to raise funds for the charity which has made such a difference to our lives. I'll be walking and cycling the 1083 mile route but will be tracking my progress up the country virtually, so I'll be able to give you updates as to where I have got to along the way.

If I manage 21 miles every week, I'll finish in a year. That means all four seasons on the fen roads. Superb countryside accompanied by rain, muddy or icy roads, lots of bugs and then a choice of short, cold days in the winter or relentless sun in the summer. What's not to like? The only thing that baffles me is that you can go in a circular route round the fens but it's headwind all the way round!

About the charity

Hearing Dogs for Deaf People trains dogs to alert deaf people to important and life-saving sounds such as the smoke alarm, alarm clock, intruder alarms and baby monitors. These amazing dogs also help deaf people to leave loneliness behind by providing love, companionship and emotional support.
