Amy's trip to Tanzania

In my Gap Year last year, I spent 3 months over in Africa serving the community there as much as possible, and I loved it! For those of you who don't know, I will be heading out to Tanzania this summer with a team of 12 to hopefully do the same. So I'm very excited about going back! We will be there for two weeks and our main aim is to build a water tank. 90% of the population live in villages like where we'll be based. Here they have limited access to running water and electricity, few wells, inadequate sewage treatment, poor health, high infant mortality, poor nutrition, high birth rate and low life expectancy. Many children cannot go to school as they have to work, in order to do things such as walk many miles to collect clean water each day.
The average daily distance people have to walk for water across Africa is around 3.7miles (6 km). To raise awareness and to put this fact into reality for myself, I will be walking 8 miles on the 9th July, picking up two buckets of water half way along my journey. I doubt the buckets will be light but unfortunately this is an every day occurence for many people worldwide, with an estimated 1 billion not having access to clean water.
Water is vital for human life and we would love to be able to build a water tank in a rural village called Nyankanga during our stay but in order to do this we will need to raise money for building materials as resources are very limited. We have all paid for the trip ourselves so any money donated will go straight to helping the local people. 'Go Mad in Tanzania' has no over heads, hence 100% of what you give will go straight to people we are helping, who have extremely little. We will also be fixing water tanks already out there, building latrines and helping out in some of the local orphanages, so the more money which is raised, the more our team will be able to serve the community we will be visiting. So any amount donated, however small will be very much appreciated!
If you would like to support me either in prayer or with items I can take over there (such as any spare tools, childrens clothes/toys, mosquite nets, bed linen etc) feel free to contact me on am4g10@soton.ac.uk- even if its just an encouraging email, I'd love to hear from you! Thank so much for taking the time to visit this page :) I'd be very grateful for your support.
