Story
Our son was born on June 12th 2016. The day after he was born we were told he had a heart murmur. After hours of waiting and hours of tests, the doctors informed us that our little boy has a heart condition called aortic valve stenosis. One of the valves in his heart is thicker than it should be, making it difficult for his heart to pump the necessary blood around his body. The princess Anne and Southampton general immediately took action and he was admitted into intensive care to stabilise his condition. He was transferred to the ocean ward in the Southampton general, where the nurses and the doctors took such incredible care of him. My husband and I were able to leave him there each night knowing he was in good hands. We called each night and each morning to make sure our little man was okay and they were so good with us! He was discharged 4 days later and sent home with us. Less than 4 weeks later he was re-admitted as his condition had worsened and he needed an operation. He had keyhole surgery to pop a balloon in his valve to increase the blood flow. He was released three days later and now 7 months on he is totally different baby! Those first 4 weeks of his life were the worst of ours, but we can honestly say things would been and seemed so much worse if the staff on the ocean ward had not been so incredible! They held us when we cried and took care of our miracle when we could not! Without them our son would not be here today! Our son will always have this condition and he and so many other children need wards like this when they're so poorly! It's places and people like these that need to be praised and kept going. This is why we are raising money for this ward! So please join us in saying thank you by helping us reach our goal and donate today! Thank you for reading!
