Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

My son Luke and I are attempting The Bosphorus Cross-Continental Swim this Sunday 22nd July 2018. The race crosses the Bosphorus Strait in Istanbul from Asia to Europe and is one of the most iconic open water swimming events in the world. The busy shipping lane comes to a standstill for the duration of the event as 2000 competitors from all over the globe swim from shore to shore - it's going to be an epic swim to celebrate our milestone birthdays.

Luke and I have been training for a few months now but it's a significant open water swim and conditions can be challenging. We're not quite sure whether we're going to get to the other side or be embarrassingly fished out of the water by a rescue boat

We wanted to swim for a cause and can't think of any more worthy recipient than Rugby Portobello Trust, a charity in North Kensington, London who are doing an excellent job of helping kids under the age of 25 to reach their full potential. They provide a wide range of activities and learning programmes, so that kids, who often have very troubled backgrounds, can achieve their personal best and grow up to become independent adults. Both Luke and I have volunteered with RPT; Luke has raised funds through his school and I work in the homework club. We are endlessly impressed by the extraordinary capabilities of the kids who come there as well as the tireless patience and support of all the volunteers and staff.
