DSE works with parents, teachers and researchers to improve education for children with Down syndrome. Our scientific research improves understanding of the condition. Our evidence-based resources provide reliable information and advice to families and professionals worldwide.

Story

Well it took a long time but I did it!

Thank you visiting my JustGiving page. My latest challenge is a 100-mile bike ride (the Diss Cyclathon on 24th June) which I'm doing in aid of Down's Syndrome Education. DSE is a charity supporting research that results in evidence-based advice to the families of children with Trisomy 21 (the scientific name for Down's Syndrome).

Named after the characteristic extra 21st chromosome, T21 is a common condition which affects around 1 in 1,000 people, including my amazing daughter Maddie. That extra chromosome can make some things much harder for Maddie to get her head around (we all have days like that, eh?) and it means she has different ways of learning compared to the average child.

But thanks to the incredible work of organisations like DSE International today we have a much better understanding of how children with Trisomy 21 learn so they can be supported to develop and achieve remarkable success in all walks of life, contrary to the outdated stereotypes about DS.

I have done many, many bike rides but never 100 miles so your support is appreciated! Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and secure, apparently. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they say they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, your money goes directly to the charity. So it’s the most efficient way to donate – saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

Many thanks in advance!
