On the 15th February we will be saying a final goodbye to my mum who passed away On the 31st January, at the age of 58. We will be having a small family gathering to remember my mum's life but some people who knew my mum have expressed a wish to show their support, which I really appreciate. 

For many years my mum battled with alcohol addiction. This was a very difficult period in her life and she tried on a number of occasions to control and overcome her addiction. In these times she was given a lot of support from Turning Point Scotland who assist people in their recovery and help them build relationships and skills to turn their life around. 

While my mum lost her battle, I think it important to highlight the hope this organisation gives people in often fragile or chaotic circumstances. Alcohol addiction is all too common, taking various forms, and has a much wider impact beyond the individual, yet there is still a stigma attached to talking about it. I hope that my mum's story can influence that in some small way.
