Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Hi everyone. I am now back from South Africa having successfully completed the Cape Town Argus cycling event. As expected the hills were really challenging, particularly Chapman's peak and going downhill was not for the faint- hearted. On several occasions my speedometer reached 60 kph. and this was both exhilarating and terrifying.
The scenery was spectacular although I mainly focussed on what was directly in front of me. I finished with a time of 4.19hrs with an average speed of 25.18. I didn't break any records but I was delighted to come in under 4.30hrs and to complete the route without stopping at any of the drink/food stations.
On the day of the race my wife Lise and two daughter Louise and Emily tracked my progress via an APP that gave updates every 15-20 Km. Unfortunately after 78 km, my race chip stopped working and no updates came through until the finishing line. Its fair to say they were slightly anxious when I suddenly appeared down the home straight.
On behalf of everyone at Sparks thank you so much for your very generous support, which has helped raise to date £1656 for the children's charity Sparks. Also a big thanks from me, the support really helped in getting me over the finish line.
Thanks
Andy
It was back in September last year when a close friend first suggested taking part in the Cape Argus . It's a 109km race for professionals and amateurs around the Cape. At the time of registering, I didn't give any thought to the hilly terrain around the coast lline.
I have never attempted a long distance ride and I must say I have found the training extremely challenging. Its been so difficult to find the time and sum up the energy to train after a long day at work.
Although apprehensive, I am looking forward to the challenge and the opportunity to raise money for Sparks a most wonderful children's charity. The charity raises money for research and development for children's illnesses and diseases and makes a huge difference to the lives of so many families.
The event takes place on 06 March 2016 and I will be flying out to Cape Town on 02 March with team Jaye, my wife Lise and two daughters Louise and Emily.
So, please spare a few minutes in your busy day and help me achieve my fund raising goal. No contribution too small.
Thanks for reading.
