Papercup Project is a Liverpool charity which helps those who are homeless or at risk of homelessness by providing outreach services, including food, drink, clothing and advice.

Story

Over 2000 people are regarded as homeless in Liverpool, and it is upsetting to see so many people sleeping on the streets in the city. Charities like the Paper Cup Project are extremely important in making a change to this by helping to feed, house and employ these people.

Their work consists of supplying food/clothing, signposting to statutory services and campaigning on behalf of people that are experiencing homelessness, tackling the stigma and giving them a voice. In the past year the charity prioritised COVID vaccinations for the homeless people that wished to have it and who were extremely vulnerable.

Last year saw people assisted with accommodation as part of 'Everyone In'. Now that the government funding has run out, it is everyone out again.

The charity will soon be opening Paper Cup Coffee, a Liverpool based coffee shop, to help people who have been homeless, to build their confidence and learn new skills that will enable them to get back into work.

In support of this and to raise funds, I am embarking on a solo, unsupported bicycle ride from Land's End to John O'Groats, just me, my bike and a tent, maybe the odd B&B! The route, not the most direct, covers a little over 1000miles and many, many hills (48,000ft of elevation gain).

I set out from Land’s End on May 14/15th and hope to complete the ride in approx. 16~20days.

As everyone knows, this is quite a challenge, and I'm hoping to raise money for the Paper Cup Project for my efforts. I feel that knowing I'm helping a worthy cause will spur me on to complete the ride.
