Story
Since we are in a world cup year, there is no better time to remember and pay tribute to England's world cup winning captain than now.
I intend to pay tribute to the late Sir Bobby Moore OBE, and also my Father-in-Law and my Grandad (who both also sadly passed away from cancer) while also raising money for a very worthwhile cause.
The Bobby Moore Fund conducts research into bowel cancer an helps raise awareness of the disease. The fund was started in association with Cancer Research by Bobby's widdow Stephanie Moore MBE.
A lot of people know about Breast Cancer and Lung Cancer and a lot of good work is going on in those areas. However bowel cancer is also unfortunatley a common form of cancer with aproximatley 100 people a day in the uk diagnosed as having bowel cancer (affecting the same number of men as women).
However, around two-thirds of bowel cancer cases could be prevented by changes to lifestyle. We can all make choices that will reduce the risk of the disease, such as taking plenty of exercise, maintaining a healthy body weight and eating a healthy diet. This is why raising awareness is equally as important as the research into finding cures and treatments.
So wether it is to help remember and honour England's greatest captain, a friend or family member you have lost through cancer or any other reason please help me to reach and hopefully surpass my target of raising £500 towards the Bobby Moore Fund so we can hopefully reduce the unfortunate numbers of people diagnosed with the disease and also help treat those who are diagnosed.
