Story
Our youngest daughter Isabella (now 16) has struggled with an eating disorder for the past 4 years. She has been completely robbed of her teenage years by this evil and destructive illness which has seriously affected her physical and mental health. Despite doing everything we could as parents to support her, it took more than 3 years for her to get professional help from CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service) and BEDS (Berkshire Eating Disorder Service) and she ended in The Royal Berkshire Hospital with a dangerously low heart rate before her illness was taken seriously. After 7 months of being an inpatient at a specialist unit and numerous challenging months at home, she has finally turned a corner and we strongly believe she is on her road to recovery. It has been an incredibly difficult few years for all the family, not to mention the heartache we have all experienced seeing Izzie suffer at the hands of this cruel and debilitating illness. I hope that, through my fundraising efforts, I can make more people aware of this widely misunderstood and stigmatised illness which can affect males and females of any age or socio- economic group. I am also hopeful that, by fundraising for BEAT, we can campaign for positive change for anyone suffering from an eating disorder so that they can get the help they need and deserve because we know that the faster they get treatment, the greater the chance of full recovery.
