Andrew's MARATHON DES SABLES THE TOUGHEST FOOT RACE ON EARTH

MARATHON DES SABLES THE TOUGHEST FOOT RACE ON EARTH · 3 April 2015
In April 2015 Watch Commander Andy Simister Blue Watch Manchester Central Fire Station. Lives in Diggle, Saddleworth, Oldham, 45 years old, married two kids and having a mid-life crisis is competing in
THE MARATHON DES SABLES 2015 which is dubbed the TOUGHEST FOOT RACE ON EARTH
It’s the equivalent of over five and a half marathons in six days across the Sahara Desert in Morocco, with temperatures reaching 50 degrees centigrade. You have to be self-sufficient to survive in the desert for the duration of the race, carrying everything from food to survival gear on your back. Water is provided by the organisers, but it’s rationed at checkpoints.
One of the days consists of a non-stop fifty mile stage, starting in the morning and going through the night. Total distance of the event is around one hundred and fifty miles.
I have paid the entry fee out of my own pocket. I am raising money for CANCER RESEARCH UK
100% of the money raised will go to the charity; all I will receive is a suntan, a thousand blisters and hopefully a finisher’s medal.
All I need is as many people as possible to support and sponsor me so that when I reach a low point during the race from the heat, the dehydration, the exhaustion, the blood, sweat and tears from the pain of my blistered feet, I will have the knowledge that people back home, are backing me, and my chosen charity. This will help me find every ounce of physical and mental strength needed to finish the race.
