BCO Cycle Challenge : Bilbao to Madrid · 13 May 2013

Willow is the only UK charity supporting seriously ill 16 to 40 year olds by providing unique and positive Special Days. Since 1999 Willow has fulfilled more than 22,000 Special Days for young adults living with life-threatening conditions such as cancer, motor neurone disease and cystic fibrosis.

Story

In May of this year I will be travelling to Madrid for the British Council for Offices Conference. This is an annual occurrence for me, but what will distinguish this year from the last 15(!) is that I will be participating in the BCO 290 mile cycle ride from Bilbao and arriving under my own pedal power.

The ride itself will be a challenge. The first day consists of a 93 mile ride from sea level up to Burgos climbing 5000 feet. Day two will be the hardest taking in 110 miles and a further 3,200 ft. of climbing to reach Segovia. The third day will be a matter of hanging on for the final 61 miles and last 3,700 ft. of climbing to arrive in Madrid, the highest capital in Europe, for the start of the Conference.

This event hopes to raise money for The Willow Foundation which is a national charity that provides memorable days for seriously ill 16 to 40 year olds. Each special day aims to provide beneficiaries and their loved ones a break from the realities of their diagnosis and treatment. At a time of uncertainty, spending quality time with family and friends can help restore a sense of normality, boost confidence and create precious memories for the future.
