Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On the 14 November 2014, we are celebrating the life of our student, Georgina Anderson who died from a rare form of cancer a year ago. Whilst I never met Georgina, I have been touched by the warmth, strength and spirit she brought to so many students and staff at Bydales School, in Marske-by-the-Sea. This was so clear when I became headteacher here in the summer, and I have been moved by how inspired students were by her, her music and her strength both before and during her illness. It will be a privilege this year for the school to award the first 'Georgina's Star for Strength' award, donated by her parents Helen and Paul.
Out Student Voice would like to build a lasting memorial garden to Georgina, on the grounds of the school, as well as raise money for the Teenage Cancer Trust. I was approached by Joe Henderson, a close friend of Georgina's in Year 11, to ask if he could shave his head to raise money. Of course! And I was glad when he agreed I could join him.
Fast forward to yesterday, during the Inauguration Ceremony for our newly elected Student President, Morgan McFadyen, in front of the entire school, students and staff. Her first challenge, in front of Redcar & Cleveland Mayor Councillor Carole Simms, was from Sir Michael Wilkins. He suggested that she should push for £5000 to be raised and that if it was, he promised I would also shave off my beard (!) and Mr Tarn, Executive Principal would shave his head too! The challenge was extended to any other students and teachers! Suddenly the huge target of £5000 seems possible!
Please donate as much as you can, and if you want to visit the Memorial Garden for Georgina when it is completed, please contact me at the school for a visit.
Students who visit this page, please get in touch with Sam Blackburn Y10, Chairman of the Student Voice Charities Committee, if you want to get involved too, or want to help raise an astounding amount of money for the Teenage Cancer Trust and a memorial celebrating Georgina's life.
