Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

From the 17th september 2011 I will be cycling from the Uk to Marrakech, 2000 + miles through France, Spain and Morocco.(?!!?)

I'll be doing it without the aid of a support crew so will be carrying a lot of stuff, going on average 60 to 70 miles a day, 6 days a week I aim to get there within six weeks if there are no complications (how could there be?). I would also like to get in a few 100 mile days before I'm done. I'll be camping, hosteling and staying with friends along the way.

I'll be doing it to raise money for the charity Building Futures in Malawi. My Dad and his wife Sally have just opened a primary school in Malawi. Sally is from Malawi. They are in the process of setting up a charity to support the school but it won't be registered for another couple of months yet so all of your donations will go to BFiM who are doing similarly excellent work. Malawi is the 7th poorest country in the world. 3.4 % of the population complete secondary education and 48 % of children are chronically malnourished. I'd like to help them.

I do plan to be having a bit of fun from time to time on the trip and hope that the whole thing will be a great experience but there will also be sweat, boredom and a sore bottom. and dogs chasing me. and insects. and children throwing stones at me (seriously.. i read it)...and maybe a scorpion..and a head wind for most of the way..and mountains..(err, why exactly am I doing this again?).

I know that times are a bit hard these days but if you could sponsor me I would be really grateful.

Thanks

Andy Brown.

About the charity

It supports secondary education in Malawi by providing money for buildings and equipment. It has built two community libraries which it runs with the national library service. It also runs a sports programme in Lilongwe and at the present time a new site is being developed to create a sports academy.
