Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

As you are all aware I take on the odd endurance event now and again, however this is the biggest challenge of my life so far and I'd love to try and raise a few more quid for a fantastic charity.

THE CHARLIE COOKSON FOUNDATION

The Charlie Cookson Foundation (CCF) provides financial support to parents of seriously ill children with life limiting conditions that require 24 hour nursing care or specialist nursing facilities. We understand how difficult life can become when you have had to reduce your working hours or in fact leave your employment as your child requires 24 hour care.

We aim to raise awareness of the difficulties faced by parents and carers who care for seriously ill children and campaigns to improve the quality of life of sick and seriously ill children, working with professionals to play an active part in the design and development of services to ensure the needs of parents, carers and children are heard and considered.

Race details,

The race is self sufficient, I will carry all my own food , clothing , safety equipment , sleeping system with water being topped up every 10 miles or so.

The organisers provide a tent with hot and cold water at the end of each stage that's it ! So no support teams no family members shoving food in my face if I want it ,it will be on my back. Strict rules are in place so no stopping at shops and no outside assistance.

24th to 30th August 2018

A 235 mile, 6-stage, multi-day ultra from Scotland, through England, to finish in Wales, featuring 27,000ft of ascent.

It is a fearsome challenge, 50% further than your typical global multi-stage race.  So, if you are looking for an easy race, this isn’t it.

Each day has its own distance and challenge with varied terrain and elevation as it passes through the country.

The Route

Deadwater begins on the Scotland / England border and ends at Chester castle on the Welsh Border.  It’s a journey of 235 miles and 27,000 feet of elevation.

The last train departed from Deadwater in 1956, after 98 years of service. The old stone platform and station building are still there, though the track has since been reclaimed by nature.  It’s from Deadwater that your six day Journey from Scotland to Wales begins.  The route has been split into six different stages. Each stage has been subtitled with a feature that stands out on that particular stage

Day 1- The forest - 31 miles - 3497 ft
Day 2- The pennine way - 36 miles - 5158 ft
Day 3 - The wild boar - 44 miles - 5526 ft
Day 4 - The long Stage - 60 miles - 9030 ft
Day 5 - Canal hell - 32 miles - 1325 ft
Day 6 - Rush to the castle - 32 miles - 1913 ft.

If anyone can spare a few pounds to help a fantastic charity ,the foundation and I would be over the moon.

Thankyou and fingers crossed it's a tough one !
