Virgin London Marathon 2011 · 17 April 2011 ·
You can make a difference. Over half of all heart research in the UK is funded by the money you give.
In 2009 my Dad lost his battle with heart disease after a 30 year fight. I'm running the 2011 London marathon to raise funds for the British Heart Foundation.
Their vision is a world where people don't die prematurely from heart disease, and they are achieving this through pioneering research, vital prevention activity and ensuring quality care and support for everyone living with heart disease.
Just to give you an idea of how important your donations is, read on, or watch the video:
£10 – Help children cope with bereavement
£10 could cover the cost of a bereavement box for a child who has lost a close family member to heart disease. The sensitive story and interaction with the pack’s contents will help a child come to terms with their grief in their own time and their own way.
£25 – Help find a cure
£25 could fund one of our young scientists for an hour. We currently provide the salaries for around 500 post-doctoral scientists who work in research teams right across the UK on projects to better understand how to diagnose, prevent, treat and cure heart disease.
or if you are feeling generous…
£250 – Provide a hand held ECG machine
£250 could cover the cost of a hand held ECG machine. These machines are designed for patients to use at home to monitor their hearts. When they experience a cardiac event this machine will record the hearts rhythm which a doctor can later study and use it to help diagnose the patient’s condition.
Personally, my targets are to raise £2k, and beat the guy in the Iron Diving suit. Easy eh?
