OSCAR's Yorkshire Three Peaks Family Challenge · 30 April 2023 ·

OSCAR's PBTC was set up in memory of Oscar Hughes, a 9-year-old who died of a brain tumour in 2014. His journey was heartbreaking yet inspiring. OSCAR's aims to provide support and care to children with brain tumours, raise awareness to help diagnosis and fund research into better treatments.

Story

OSCAR’s Paediatric Brain Tumour Charity exists to support and care for children facing brain tumours and their families, to raise awareness of children’s brain tumours and to fund new research to drive down diagnosis time, increase survival rate and improve children’s quality of life during and after treatment.

It was set up in memory of Oscar Hughes a 9-year-old boy from York, who died of a brain tumour in May 2014.  The charity exists to serve any child, anywhere in the UK having to deal with life with a brain tumour.

Brain tumours are the biggest cancer killers in people under the age of 40, a fact many people are unaware of.

The five-year survival rate for brain tumours is only 12% whereas for other cancers it is 50%. When we lose more young people to brain tumours than to any other cancer, and when brain tumour patients are left with a poor quality of life, this is just not good enough.

By supporting OSCARS we can help to change this. We can help tio change lives.

If you can spare a few quid to sponsor us, we promise to keep going until we have scaled the 3 peaks, completed the 44km walk, which apparently is going to take us 12 hours minimum!!

Wish us luck!!
