Marathon in aid of BeatSCAD

Aniela’s Birthday Marathon for BeatSCAD · 31 August 2021
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am a 2x SCAD heart attack survivor. My SCADs were June 2017 and January 2019.
SCAD is a rare and often undiagnosed heart condition that can't currently be predicted or prevented. SCAD occurs when a tear or a bruise develops in one of the coronary arteries resulting in a blockage that prevents normal blood flow. This can result in a heart attack.
The majority of SCAD cases are in young- to middle-aged women, who have few or none of the traditional risk factors associated with heart disease. More research is needed to understand why fit, healthy people suddenly develop SCAD. SCAD can be fatal, cause heart failure, cardiac arrest, require heart bypass surgery.
SCAD turned my life completely upside down. I've been through absolute hell and back on a rocky rollercoaster journey of physical pain, debilitating anxiety, severe depression, and PTSD. BUT: I'm so proud of how far I've come, and now that I'm at my strongest and fittest ever, it's time to give back and help to raise awareness of SCAD. I want to show that there is life after SCAD.
